The Alexandria Marching Band has been a competitive group since the early 1980’s, placing in the top 3 in each parade entered.
The band has traveled to the 1985 Cotton Bowl Parade, the Tournament of Roses Parade in 1990 and 1998, the Florida Citrus Bowl Parade in 2003 and 2006, the 1992 National Independence Day Parade, the 1992 Closing Ceremonies of the U.S. Olympic Festival, the 1994 and 2000 Fiesta Bowl Parade, the 2009 Estes Park and Greeley Stampede Parades, the 2011 Coronado Island 4th of July Parade in San Diego, and in 2015 an International tour of Norway including Oslo and Bergen.
The Alexandria Marching Band strives to include students of diverse background, skill and talent into a performance team that fosters individual creativity, improvement, and coordination of all elements into a unique art form. The band seeks to entertain the audience and strive toward excellence in a manner that can be evaluated and improved upon in a competitive and educational setting. Marching band is an enhancement and acceleration program for all band students, which refines their technical skills and musical coordination.
Each student will be set up with an account in a database through the Band Boosters Organization. The account serves as the “Savings Account” for the funds for the trips. The Band Boosters also provide students with ample opportunities to fundraise the necessary costs of the trip. The 2012-2013 schedule of planned fundraisers are listed here.
- Herberger’s Community Day booklets: Sell Sept 24 – Nov 5 (Cost of each booklet is $5 and 100% of each sale goes directly into the student’s account)
- Henry’s Frozen Food Sales: Sell Oct 8 – Oct 22 (The Community has been suppportive of this event since the early 1980’s)
- Pete’s County Market Bagging: Nov 20,21 and March 28,29 (Students sign up for shifts)
- Tastefully Simple: Dec 3-17 & Early May
- MVP Savings cards: sales start in late February (card sells for $20 and students get $10 profit from each card sold)
It is the Band Booster’s goal to provide these fundraising opportunities for students to achieve their financial goals for the trip costs. The band directors and JHS and DMS will be announcing information on the fundraisers.
